October 23-28, 2025 in Tavira, Algarve & optional Pre-retreat visit to Lisbon October 17-23, 2025
Once again, for our annual yoga retreat, we will explore the path less travelled…this time to a charming fishing town named Tavira which is fondly known as Algarve’s Venice. Tavira is famous for long sandy beaches and ‘salt pans’ that attract various wading birds including flamingos, spoonbills making it a true wildlife sanctuary. Imagine strolling around the cobbled streets of this quaint old town, taking in the views from Tavira Castle and venturing out to Tavira Island in Ria Formosa Natural Park…and let your heart be filled by the splendor of nature and the peaceful charm this area of Portugal’s Algarve region has to offer away from the more touristy places. From the ruins of Tavira Castle to some of the architectural influences of the Moors between the 8th-13th Century, Tavira promises not only stunning beaches but remarkable artifacts and many centuries of history. You will have 2 tours included in your retreat package to explore some of the highlights of the local area.

Lisbon here we come…Oct 17-23, 2025
It seemed only natural to stop over in Lisbon for 6 days, prior to our yoga retreat time in a secluded place in Portugal’s Algarve Coastal region…Let me describe what a perfect day in Lisbon might look like:
-7:30am Pranayama and Meditation to restore the body and calm the mind in our cozy city home–8:30a breakfast ‘a la casa’–10:00a off to Castelo de Sao Jorge to take in sweeping panoramic views over the city–12:00p from here meandering through picturesque alleys framed with colorful tile houses on our way to a relaxing lunch of ‘grilled sardines’ or salted cod in one of the family-run restaurants in the backstreets of Alfama district–2:00p take a trip on Lisbon’s most picturesque tram heading down to the Baixa district, an appealing grid of old-fashioned streets–from there take a bus, along the waterfront to Belem, Lisbon’s monumental district…and visit the fantastic “Mosteiro dos Jeronimos” (monastery), enjoy it’s magnificent carvings that seem other-worldly in their grandeur–4:30p following these historic sights in Belem we are now ready for one of Lisbon’s finest pastry shops to indulge in their famous custard tarts–7:00p Dinner in Alfama…possibly at the Chapito a Mesa, which is known for its hearty Portuguese food and offers stunning views over the city–9:00p some of us will head home, while others might want to go for the ‘Fado’ experience, traditional Portuguese soul music. Of course these times and places are only suggestions and represent one of many options to get a real good taste (on all levels) of what makes Lisbon such an amazing place to explore…
Also included in our stay in Lisbon will be a guided day trip to the famous Castles of Sintra and Cascais, including a visit to Pena National Palace and Park, the enchanting Quinta da Ragaleira offering an extraordinary experience of romantic gardens, mysterious grottoes and the iconic Initiation Well, all steeped in myth and symbolism; from Sintra our tour will continue through dramatic landscapes on the way to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Europe, where stunning cliff views await….
Another guided day trip will take us to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the iconic Convento de Cristo and the imposing Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaca. On route we will enjoy regional cuisine at one of Batalha’s traditional restaurants, and visit the impressive Batalha Monastery, a phenomenal Gothic monument which was built to commemorate the Portuguese victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385. There is ample history to be explored in and around Lisbon…and naturally we might also just want to hang out at our very own spacious garden (that comes with our apartment)…or visit one of the casual eateries just down the street to mingle with the locals.
Accommodation for 6 nights: Single room w/shared bath $1550, Double w/shared bath $1350 (continental breakfast included) Space is limited to 7 participants, so please reserve early.
Terms Oct 17-23: A $600 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your spot, rooms will be assigned as available. Balance payment is due by June 23, 2025 and is non-refundable after this date. Included in your 6-night stay in Lisbon are 2 guided day tours including admission to sights, roundtrip transportation via train from Lisbon to Tavira and shuttle from train station to Casa Terra Retreat center, 6 continental breakfasts at our Casa, daily pranayama and meditation.
Not included are international airfare, local transportation from airport to housing, other public transportation fares, lunches, dinners, travel insurance, and all other incidentals.
Even with it’s growing interest in tourism, Lisbon, has maintained a somewhat laid back old world charm and to this day “Lisboetas” (residents) decorate their balconies with flower pots and their walls with colorful tiles, relax in local coffee shops with a pastry in front and greet visitors like us with a warm welcome! So, if all this talks to you, please make your commitment soon. I feel the intentionally ‘small group’ atmosphere of this trip will offer you many cultural delights and to keep everything in balance, some equally important restorative yoga and meditation along the way.
